Delmarva small ruminant producers are frustrated by a lack of veterinary availability. We have a plan to fix that. Routine care of sheep and goats is needed, there are certain costs that can be expected when providing appropriate care. These structured plans allow producers to budget for the care of their livestock each year and avoid expensive surprises. Our strategy is simple, we want to provide access to high quality preventive medicine that reduces unexpected expenses and emergencies. By targeting our deworming strategy to only those animals that need it we can reduce expense, improve animal care and minimize the spread of parasite resistance.
All producers in the plan require a once annual visit from our veterinarian; trip charges are based on mileage but are reduced for plan members. Routine services are those that are scheduled in advance and can include anything a producer may need: vaccinations, deworming, examinations, disbudding and pregnancy diagnostics.
All sheep and goat producers are eligible to enroll in these veterinary service plans. The total number of head is based on the total number of sheep and goats on the farm at the time of enrollment. Alpacas and llamas are not included.
